Live at Lunch: Peter Lamb/Mark Wells Duo
Spend lunch at Downtown Cary Park enjoying live musical performances as the melodious backdrop for the break in your day.
Live music will be performed by the Peter Lamb/Mark Wells Duo on Academy Plaza. For over a decade, Peter Lamb (saxophonist) & Mark Wells (pianist/vocalist) have performed together as a duo or in their jazz quintet, as Peter would put it, “melting peoples faces off!” Each of them writes and arranges music for the band thereby adding to their eclectic and playful repertoire. Peter is also the owner of Flying Squirrel Music in Raleigh, which specializes in woodwind repairs and is a saxophone teacher. Mark is also a piano teacher who has a BA in Psychology, Mark’s Organ Trio, Organphonics, released its self-titled debut in 2000. Mark was a musical director for jazz vocalist Harmony Kenney’s 2003 release “This Time Its Love”. Mark also was a founding member of Sankofa, an influential hip-hop jazz group that released two albums & opened for Outkast & Busta Rhymes.
Imagine a fantastic rhythm section and amazing solos over a mixture of stormy Russian folk songs, the Super Mario Brothers theme, topped with incredible vocals on numbers such as ‘Mess Around’ by Ray Charles. Their music ranges from innovative originals to classics arranged of Latin music with a surprise twist, from 1920s New Orleans jazz to 1980s pop to eastern European brass band.
They were three-time guests on NPR’s The State of Things with Frank Stasio and were named Best Jazz Band in the Triangle by the Indy Week magazine multiple times. They have toured extensively and graced premium stages such the New Orleans Jazz Festival, Koka Booth Amphitheatre in Cary and many more.
